About Us

The Challenge

As working professionals who spend half their day with PDFs, we understand the struggle - a form that needs to be under 2 MB as an attachment, scanned copies that arrive upside down, removing content before a document is shipped or a file that just won’t open.

The usual fix is to search for a free tool, upload the document to their server, wait, and hope. It’s okay if the data is not important, but strange if it’s a legal document, a payslip, a passport scan or a medical report.

PDFJIFF exists to remove that trade-off. The tools here do their work on your own device, inside the browser tab you already have open.

How it works

When you select a file, the browser reads it into memory on your computer or phone. The processing code — the part that merges, splits, compresses, rotates or rewrites the document — is downloaded to your device once and then runs locally, the same way a spreadsheet or a photo editor runs locally.

There is no upload step because there is no server waiting to receive the file. The result is written back out in your browser and saved through your normal download prompt.

This results in:

  • Speed - The speed of operation is directly proportional to your system. Most new age systems execute these tasks in a jiffy.
  • Nothing to leak - A document that never leaves the device cannot sit in a queue, a log, a cache, or a backup somewhere else.

Languages

The interface is translated so the tools are usable outside English, and you can switch languages from the selector in the site header. Translations are reviewed by hand rather than dumped through a machine and left there, but they are never perfect. If a phrase reads oddly in your language, telling us is one of the most useful things you can do.

Who builds it

PDFJIFF is built and maintained by a small independent team. It is not a venture-funded suite with a sales pipeline attached; it is a focused set of tools maintained by people who use them.

New tools get added when a real request comes up more than once. Existing tools get quietly improved as browser capabilities improve. If something is broken, missing, or almost-but-not-quite what you needed, please don’t hesitate to write to us at hello@pdfjiff.com - that’s the fastest way to help us improve.
